J.D. Salinger: In Memoriam

The School of Education, Languages and Communications, and the Centre for Professional Development and Continuing Education (PACE) of Wawasan Open University (WOU) will be holding a 'J.D. Salinger: In Memoriam' session.

The memorial is to remember JD Salinger, the enigmatic American novelist who died in January this year. Salinger's 'The Catcher in the Rye'  written in 1950 became a cult book soon after its publication. Many critics consider the book as the single most important voice of the baby boom generation. 'The Catcher in the Rye' and other of Salinger's very small collection of works resonated with generations of university students in Malaysia from the time the first English language department was set up in University of Malaya.

The memorial will see a number of Malaysian writers and academics reading from the works of Salinger and talking about the controversial man who remained unapproachable most of his life despite the overwhelming success of his single important work.

Date: Saturday, March 20th
Time: 10.00am - 12.00 noon
Venue:

Wawasan Open University
3rd Floor, Menara PGRM
8 Jalan Pudu Ulu
Cheras, Kuala Lumpur

The event is open to all and admission is free.

Due to limited seating capacity, please contact Ms Amy or Ms Wang at  03 - 9281 7323 ext 124 /131 before March 18th to make your reservations.
